Hi!
My Name is Sophie Sene, and I am from west Africa, Senegal. I am from the “Serrere” Tribe, we are the darkest people in Senegal. I speak the language since I was born, and to this day you can still detect a bit of my heavy“Serrere” accent into my tongue. I am proud of that, I think of it as I am still carrying the legacy of my Tribe even in my speech, What a heavy HONOR. {Laughing!!! Get it, because my accent is heavy so I called it a heavy honor lol}. My husband is also from my tribe. I mean that guy is so dark that I can barely see him at night. My Tribe are known as one of the hardest working class people on the Nation. They pride themselves with virtues such as dignity, self worth and above all nobility into our actions. We are known mostly by our truthfulness character and that in particular is what other cultures say about us. Being born and raised at the heart of Africa, on my early twenties, I have to come to America and finish my studies. At my surprise it was nothing that I knew before. It was like I had to give up my identity in order to be able to blend in. It was the greatest battle that anyone could ever endeavor to embark on. I had to reclaim who I was. I didn't have to reinvent a new me just for the sake of pleasing people around me. I was proud of Where I am from? I truly embraced my African Identity and for that I am forever grateful of my heritage. That is why we created the slogan "Coming to Africa" It is a way of bringing Africa to America. Thus the creation of Thialy Coming to AFRICA!!!

Why Sophie created Thialy?
Crafting African Elegance
Empowering Cultural Expression
Our mission is to celebrate African artistry by offering handcrafted products that empower African woman, cultural diversity and above all freedom of expression in woman that have no voices.
I personally want people to know who we are, where we come from and the richness of our culture so to speak, in the vibrant tapestry of African culture, where every tradition tells a story and every rhythm invites you to dance. From the rich flavors of its cuisines the breathtaking artistry of its crafts, Africa is a land of endless inspiration. I want to make you directly Experience the warmth of its communities, where hospitality flows as freely as water. I happened to make the best African dishes that will leave your mouth watering every time you just think of it. The country Senegal is known as the country of hospitality. We are known for opening our hearts and our arms naturally to strangers. The best way we do that is by giving them food. In certain parts of Senegal, specially where I am from, you can go to any house and eat for free. That is a reflection of our true identity. We are spontaneously Genuine. We can’t help it. We were born seeing our mom distributing food to the whole village. Therefore, we became naturally inclined to cook a lot and thereafter feed as many as we can. We, Senegalese people, love to eat together, and with our bare hands. It gives us a greater connection with our food and creates stronger bonds among ourselves. My husband, still to this day teases me by calling me village people. However, even though he was born and raised from the city, he can’t help himself to put down the forks and spoons and devour the whole home made meal, even at work. He called those moments “Al Diana si kaw souff” which translates to Paradise on earth. Every single piece of our culture, from the food to the artistry, from the clothes to music, elevates and transcend you back to Mother Africa, and that is why I am very proud to be African.
Join us in embracing the beauty and craftsmanship of African heritage.
